Artist Lita Fontaine describes the mural which covers the west side of the Indigenous Family Centre on Selkirk Ave. She describes her recollections about how artist Jackson Beardy came to this project, and how it has been cared for by an artist known as Sweetpea, since his passing in 1984.
Otakosiik Tapwa’win is a project that is in recognition of the brilliance and dynamic histories of Indigenous peoples from Treaty 1 territory, the homeland of the Red River Métis, and the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabe, Ininiwak, and Dakota peoples.
Otakosiik Tapwa’win is a platform for sharing Indigenous art histories with audiences through an interactive online mapping tool.
